Protect Your Peace: May Is Mental Health Awareness Month
Did you know Black women are only about half as likely to seek mental health care compared to their counterparts, despite experiencing higher rates of chronic depression? Black women are powerful, but we’re not invincible—and we shouldn’t have to be. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re centering rest, reflection, and real resources made for us. Because your mental wellness matters just as much as your physical health.
Here are a few ways to prioritize your peace:
Check in with yourself daily – Even 5 minutes of quiet reflection can help reset your mind. Ask: How am I feeling? What do I need?
Say no without guilt – Protect your boundaries. Your time and energy are valuable, and you don’t owe anyone an explanation for putting yourself first.
Move your body, your way – Whether it’s a walk, stretching, or dancing in your kitchen, movement helps release stress and boost mood.
Reach out for support – Therapy is not a weakness—it’s power. Culturally competent therapists see you and can help guide your journey.
Here are trusted, culturally grounded resources to explore, support, and strengthen your mental wellness:
